VETERAN FISHING THERAPY
We are a nationwide network of veterans, active duty and civilian anglers joining forces to combat a national epidemic, suicide among our Nation's veterans and active duty personnel. Our goal is to help them heal through fishing and support them through their good and bad times. Many of us here are living proof of the positive effects that fishing has had on our lives. This has provided the inspiration needed to spread the word. Fishing provides peace, serenity and escape from the everyday hustle of life and those hidden wounds many of our Nation's veterans carry around. We are trading our pills for reels and going from battle buddies to fishin' buddies. Whether you came here for help or to help, we welcome you with open tackle boxes. We got your six; nobody is left behind. Relax, reflect, rejuvenate, recover, and restore.
22 a day, 8030 a year! These numbers represent how many veterans commit suicide. The numbers are staggering, but they do not include all 50 states or all forms of suicide. Many experts feel these numbers may be drastically higher. Here is a link to the Veteran Affairs Suicide Data Report 2012. We are not alone in this fight; there are many great organizations out there. We at Fishin' Buddies for Veterans
have our way of helping out, Fishin'. It is a simple approach: get veterans out into nature and fish. With your help we can grow the network allowing us to be in contact with more veterans.
Our success is very dependent on our network and its members. We grow our network through social media, i.e. Facebook and Instagram, this website and good ol' fashioned word of mouth. You can help us out by simply spreading the word, becoming a Fishin' Buddy, buying from our online store, or referring a veteran to our program. We are a project under Anglers Anonymous of America a 501c3 non-profit Ein# 47-4784498. We are a group of veterans, active duty and civilians working together to combat veteran suicide.
NOT ALL WOUNDS ARE VISIBLE
Remember the ol’ sayin’ “Don’t judge a book by its cover?” The same goes for many disabled veterans. Mental disabilities such as PTSD, Anxiety, and TBI’s are plaguing our Nation’s veterans of all eras. They need our help; we need your help. We are here to educate the public about PTSD, TBI and how they affect the lives of veterans, their families and friends. Fishin’ is just part of what we do. By partnering with the non-profit organization 10-33 Foundation; we can try to provide Prevention, Intervention and Chaplain services through that partnership.
